Monday, January 25, 2010

Straight out of Brooklyn, our good friend Gary Forbes is living his dream and making a big impression in the NBA. We watch him progress into a great player from the old school days at Benjamin Banneker Hs, St Johns Rec, UMass  overseas leagues  and until now. His brooklyn swagg and go getta mentality really shines thru on the court. His positive and humble attitude will take him very far in the NBA.

Gary Orlando Forbes born February 25, 1985 in ColónPanama is a Panamanian professional basketball player who plays for the NBA Denver Nuggets. The 6 ft 7 in, 220 lb played college basketball initially at the University of Virginia, then transferred to the University of Massachusetts following his sophomore season at Virginia. On September 18, 2010, the Denver Nuggets invited Forbes to training camp. Playing in 8 games, Forbes averaged 19.0 minutes, 10.1 points, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He survived pre-season cuts and made the season roster.

Gary Forbes has been given an opportunity to play and show what he can do .He is a diamond in the rough for the Denver Nuggets.  His fun-loving down to earth personality is increasing his fanbase tremendously.

Forbes arrived at Denver Nuggets training camp as a longshot to make the opening night roster, his hardwork and dedication made it impossible for the Nuggets to release him.
At 6-foot-7, 220 pounds, the 25-year-old Forbes is an NBA prototype: strong enough to hold his own in the paint, yet quick enough to defend on the perimeter. He can shoot from beyond the three-point line and create off the dribble. Forbes has shown brilliance on the court, can the dunk the ball aggressively and he is learning how to play at NBA level quickly. He
Forbes stated “I’m just a real confident, positive person. I figured I was going to do well,” Forbes said. “I had that positive outlook that I was going to do well, come in and contribute and help the team. It didn’t end up the way I thought it would be – with a win – but it’s a stepping stone.”
“I’m able to create for people. I can play multiple positions. I’m a good team defender and a good one-on-one defender,” Forbes said, ticking off his attributes, “so I hope that they’re able to see my versatility offensively and defensively and that I can help this team win games.”

Gary Forbes is becoming a role model for people with diabetes. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2005. He wanted to keep the news quiet as a survival instinct. He didn'want scouts, coaches and executives to view his disease as a sign of weakness.  Now working with Nuggets he is willing to share his story with people who are living with diabetes.
Since Forbes started he has participated in basketball clinics for young kids with diabetes. The clinic was suggested by Forbes after he made Denver’s roster.
Forbes has come too far on his basketball journey to stopped now. He has big hopes that he can continue to serve as a role model and inspiration to others with diabetes.
