Black Girls Rock , really rocked it !!!!

Black Girls Rock host Nia Long announced, "The golden rule for this evening is to believe in yourself fearlessly." Her smile seemed to invite the audience to give it a try.

The show is a tribute to the power and influence of Black women.

The founder, CEO, and Executive Producer of BLACK GIRLS ROCK!, Beverly Bond, thinks the need is urgent. "Our girls are not being told how amazing they really are or how amazing they really can be," Bond has said.

Bond founded her non-profit organization, Black Girls Rock, to mentor young girls and to combat negative images of black women in the media. She continued, "It is time that we start shouting out to the entire world that we rock.

Ms. Bond, a working DJ with clients as diverse as Alicia Keys, Derek Jeter, Sarah Jessica Parker and Martha Stewart, started her music career in 2000 by accident. Her mother exposed her to all types of music from Michael Jackson to Sarah Vaughn to Curtis Blow. But it wasn’t until she started going to dance clubs that she found her passion.
“I was tomboy. I had a record collection. I bought some turntables and practiced a lot,” Ms. Bond, a former Wilhemina model, recalls with a laugh.
What started out as a hobby quickly became a vocation. And she rapidly proved to the music community, which wasn’t quite sure what to do with a female DJ at the time, that she was committed to her craft.
Ms. Bond is equally serious about the Black Girls Rock! mission — to provide positive images and role models to inspire the girls who attend the program

There were musical performances by  Fantasia, Keri Hilson, Keyshia Cole, Kelly Price, Jill Scott, Ledisi, Marsha Ambrosius, VV Brown, Shontelle.

Special awards were giving to to Ruby Dee, Missy Elliot, Raven Simone, Keke Palmer, Dr. Iyanla Vanzant ,Teresa Clarke, Major General Marcelite J. Harris

Black Girls Rock was definitely an amazing night  for black women empowerment. We have come so far and we much continue to come together as one!
