Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls Movie was Excellent! , We Cried and Cried

Saturday, November 6, 2010

Last night we saw Tyler Perry’s Movie  “ For Colored Girls” . The movie was amazing, there was never a dull moment during this movie. We wont give up too much information about the movie. So here is a brief description of For Colored Girls

The movie superstars were Janet Jackson, Phylicia Rashad, Kerry Washington, Thandie Newton Kimberly Elise, Anika Noni Rose,Loretta Divine, Whoopi Goldberg,  Tessa Thompson and Macy Gray

The movie is based on Ntozake Shange's play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf." Unlike the original play which featured only 7 women known by colors performing the collection of 20 poems, the movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the poems deal with intense issues that particularly impact women in a thought-provoking commentary on what it means to be a female of color in the world.

The film's stars say the underlying message is not one of heartbreak, but one of hope and support.

The film follows the lives of nine black women living in and around Harlem, all of whom are confronted with a range of crises, from love, abandonment and rape to infidelity and abortion.

During interview with  Wall Street Journal  Thandie Newton stated "It's so exhilarating to be able to say, 'Yes, that's how it is. They're uncovering the truth.' Life isn't fuzzy and warm all the time,". "Unless you don't challenge yourself as a human being, you don't really live."

"And there's a great statement on sisterhood and community," Elise added. "I think you do leave the film feeling like, 'I am woman, I can do this, I can stand on top of this pain and especially with my sisters around me,' and what we bring to each other and what I bring to her," she said, motioning to Newton

"Even in the making of the film, we had to bring it for each other, and so I think you leave the film feeling that."

This movie is a must see Kudos to Tyler Perry
