Kudos to our cousin Gary Ervin!!
Gary Ervin (born 9 August 1983 in Brooklyn, New York City) is an American basketball player who plays point guard for the Wollongong Hawks in the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia. He was signed in August 2010 as the Hawks' final import for their 2010-11 season in the NBL.

Wollongong Hawks’ import guard Gary Ervin has been awarded his second National Basketball League Player of the Week honour for the season, taking out the award for Round 24 of the iiNet NBL Championship.

Ervin, who also won the NBL’s weekly award back in Round Two, led the Hawks to an 86-70 win in their final game of the season against intrastate rival Sydney Kings with a game high of 20 points.

The dynamic American guard also had eight assists, four rebounds, one steal and one block in the game against Sydney at the WIN Entertainment Centre on Sunday.   Ervin nailed 57.1% (8-of-14) of his shots from the field, and 66.7% from the perimeter (2-of-3).   He also sunk 2-of-3 free throws.

Ervin is considered one of the leading contenders for this season’s Andrew Gaze Trophy for the Most Valuable Player of the iiNet NBL Championship and is currently ranked 2nd in the league for average points, following close behind New Zealand’s Kirk Penney with an average of 20.1 points.

Cairns Taipans star Ayinde Ubaka was unlucky not to win Player of the Week in Round 24 after leading his team to a win over the Perth Wildcats that sealed the Snakes’ playoff berth.  Ubaka had 20 points as well as six rebounds and six assists for the match.

Also in contention for this week’s honours was Ubaka’s Taipans teammate Ronald Dorsey who scored 20 points against Perth, shooting at 46.2% from the field (6-of-13), scoring 7-of-11 free-throws and sinking a three-pointer. He also pulled in eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

Adelaide’s Rhys Carter, whose three-pointer with only seconds to go gave the Sixers a win against the Gold Coast Blaze in overtime, was also a contender. In the thrilling game at the Gold Coast Convention Centre Carter shot at 43.8% from the field, sinking three critical three-pointers, and three free-throws for a total of 20 points.  He also had two rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
