Maya Moore Becomes First Women's Basketball Player Signed To Jordan Brand

Maya Moore, the number one pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft, has become the first female basketball player to sign an endorsement deal with the Jordan Brand, Nike announced today.


"As a student of the game, it is a dream come true to align myself with a brand that has a rich history in sports," said Moore, according to Nike's release. "Like most kids, I grew up idolizing Michael Jordan and continue to work relentlessly to reach his iconic status on the court. I'm truly motivated to take my career to the next level as a member of Team Jordan."  - Maya Moore

Maya Moore made history once again when she became the first female basketball player signed by the Jordan Brand.

“I am thrilled to welcome Maya Moore into the Jordan Brand,” Michael Jordan, the NBA star who inspired the athletic clothes and shoes line said. “Not only has Maya proven to be a prolific winner on the court, but her hunger and determination to make an impact off the court makes her a valuable addition to the Jordan family. We look forward to working with Maya as she carries her success to the next level.”
Last month Moore was selected as the No. 1 overall draft pick in the WNBA by the Minnesota Lynx.During her successful career at UCONN, Moore led the Huskies to two national championships, three Final Four appearances and an NCAA record 90-game winning streak. She became the first player (male or female) to be named Big East Player of the Year her freshman season and is the only three-time Wade Trophy recipient. She was also a four-time first team All-American and set an NCAA record of 150 wins in 154 games.

The Jordan Brand is a division of Nike Inc. Other representatives of the brand include Carmelo Anthony, Derek Jeter, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen.
The WNBA preseason starts Thursday, May 19 with the China National Team at Connecticut. The Minnesota Lynx play its first preseason game on Tuesday, May 31 against the Indiana Fever.
